Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson exchanged views on bilateral ties and the situation on the Korean Peninsula via phone on Saturday.

The phone conversation was held at the invitation of the US side.

China-US relationship has achieved positive progress since leaders of the two countries held meeting at Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida in April, Yang told Tillerson in the phone call.

Yang has also called on the two sides to continue to implement the consensus reached by the leaders, and strengthen communication and coordination on major regional and international issues.

Both sides have said they will continue to stay in close communication in preparation for the first round of talks in the  upcoming China-US Diplomatic Security Dialogue.
