Just ahead of Friday's opening ceremony for the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, the DPRK has held a military parade in its capital, Pyongyang. It was to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of its armed forces, and a chance to show off its new Hwasong-15 Intercontinental Ballistic Missile.
DPRK leader Kim Jong Un, who attended the spectacle, said his country was a "world class military power". Kim also slammed sanctions imposed against Pyongyang and called for his military to maintain a high-level combat readiness against the United States and its allies. Meanwhile, over the border, and in one of the most high-profile events ahead of the opening ceremony, the DPRK has raised its national flag in the Olympic Village in Gangneung. An art troupe from the country is performing in the city on Thursday.
