Six miners were confirmed dead and five others rescued on Wednesday morning, after a coal mine accident in North China’s Shanxi Province.
The Dongyu Coal Mine in Qingxu County flooded at around 11:40 p.m. BJT on Monday trapping a total of 11 miners. Local authorities immediately reacted, initiating an emergency response to rescue the miners. Rescue operations lasted for over 27 hours until 2:20 a.m. BJT on Wednesday.

Among the five surviving miners, four were rescued from an underground refuge chamber and one from a conveyer belt, local authorities said.
All five have been hospitalized and are receiving medical treatment.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway.
