The death toll of the Sri Lanka floods has risen to 151 as the rescue team pulled out more bodies on Sunday, according to the Disaster Management Centre in Sri Lanka.

The heavy rain earlier in the week triggered floods and mudslides in southern and western parts of the island on Sunday. Nearly half a million people were misplaced after the incident with 111 people still missing and 95 in the hospital.

Although the rain has receded, the weather forecast shows the break in rains may be temporary and there would be storms on Sunday and Monday. The Disaster Management Centre updated on Sunday afternoon a landslides alert stating seven areas may be under further threat.

In a statement, the Center reported that 101,638 people belonging to 24,603 families affected this time were located at 319 safe locations.

The mudslide is the most severe since May 2003, when a monsoon killed over 250 people and destroyed approximately 10,000 households in Sri Lanka.
