Kim Jong Un, leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), oversaw a ground jet test of a "Korean-style high-thrust engine," newly developed by the Academy of the National Defence Sciences, the Korean Central News Agency reported on Sunday.
According to the state-run news agency, Kim visited the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground in the country's northwest, and conducted the test.
The success of the test marked a “new birth” of the "Juche-based" rocket industry, which has historic significance, said the Korean Central News Agency, indicating that the engine will help the country achieve world-class satellite launch capability.
Earlier this month, Kim supervised a ballistic rocket launch test conducted by the Korean People's Army (KPA), after the DPRK fired four missiles from an area near the Dongchang-ri long-range missile site in the western part of the country on March 6.
