Nepal is attempting to establish an age limit for climbing Mount Qomolangma after 85-year-old Min Bahadur Sherchan died while trying to scale the mountain on Saturday, according to AP.
"It is very necessary to immediately bring that age limit law," said Ang Tshering, head of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, stressing that "if there had been a limit, the loss of life could have been prevented."
The association is planning to push the government to limit the age of climbers to 76, he said.
Currently, Nepal has a minimum age requirement of 16 to climb Qomolangma, but there is no upper age limit.

Sherchan, from Nepal, was on way to the 8,844-meter summit to claim the oldest climber's record held by an 80-year-old Japanese who made it up in 2013.
Sherchan died at the Qomolangma base camp, "of apparent heart attack," according to local officials. Another Nepali man, Shailendra Kumar Upadhyaya, died at 82 in 2011 while attempting to scale Qomolangma.
Mount Qomolangma is the highest mountain in the world, peaking at 8,844 meters above sea level. ‍
