South Sudan appeals to China for food assistance

South Sudan has appealed to China for assistance with the famine ravaging parts of the country.  More than 100,000 people are affected. 
Humanitarian aid organizations have been trying to tackle South Sudan's famine emergency. However, ongoing fighting and difficult terrain have been enormous challenges to their response. But it is now hoped that new contributions from China could help make a difference to the effort.
China has heavily invested in South Sudan's oil production and infrastructural development. South Sudan however says China should expand investments in other sectors of the economy as well. In addition, China is also urging current warring factions in South Sudan to bring lasting peace to the country. And these discussions on agriculture investment are a further sign of strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
