Trump’s son-in-law a voice of reason on China ties

President Xi Jinping will meet with his US counterpart Donald Trump at Mar-a-lago, Florida on Thursday and Friday. The meeting will have a great impact on the development of China-US relations. 
There has been a great deal of attention on the US leader's attitude towards China, even before his inauguration. And for his policies on China, Trump's advisors are playing a pivotal role.
Jared Kushner, who is Trump’s oldest daughter Ivanka’s husband, has emerged as one of Donald Trump's closest advisers.
It was Kushner who encouraged Trump to call President Xi when the US-China relationship was at its most fraught.
It was also Kushner’s idea to encourage Trump to support the "One-China" policy after the newly-elected president waffled on an issue China considers non-negotiable.
China's Ambassador to the US, Cui Tiankai, reached out to the Kushners, inviting them, and the couple's daughter Arabella, to the Chinese Embassy in February.
In an administration that has sent mixed messages on China-US ties, media reports say Kushner favors diplomacy and win-win solutions. That has put him at odds with other Trump insiders.
