In what is being called a breakthrough in China’s Belt And Road initiative, the state-owned China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) has been awarded the contract to build a major new motorway in Pakistan. The motorway linking Karachi and Lahore is now being put together by Pakistani and Chinese workers.

The CSCEC signed the engineering, procurement, and construction contract on the project. According to the contract estimated to value around 2.89 billion US dollars, the Chinese firm is to build a bi-directional six-lane motorway by August 2019.

As the biggest infrastructure project in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor so far, it is an important breakthrough of CSCEC in following China-proposed Belt And Road Initiative.

Upon its completion, the motorway will greatly improve transport conditions of the most populous and developed regions in Pakistan, thus further promoting local economy.

In the past 30 years, CSCEC have completed several key projects dedicated to Pakistan's economic development.
