‘A new chapter’ opens in China-Sao Tome and Principe relations

‍Chinese President Xi Jinping said Sao Tome and Principe’s return to the China-Africa family of friendly cooperation complies with the trend of the times, and relations between the two countries have opened a new chapter.
Xi made the remarks during his meeting with visiting Sao Tome and Principe Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday.
Trovoada is on his first official visit to China, which began on Wednesday.
“China is willing to work with Sao Tome and Principe to promote friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields and the establishment of a comprehensive cooperative partnership featuring equality, mutual trust, and win-win cooperation,” said Xi.

China highly appreciates the important contributions made by Prime Minister Trovoada in promoting the normalization of relations between the two countries, noted Xi.
Xi called on both sides to deepen political mutual trust, maintain close cooperation between their governments, legislative institutions and political parties, and to support each other on issues concerning mutual core interests and major concerns.
China is willing to support Sao Tome and Principle in the country’s comprehensive development plan, said Xi, adding that China would step up cooperation with the country in areas of tourism, fisheries, and agriculture, assisting it to build three pillar sectors of infrastructure, human resources and security, for it to achieve its sustainable development.
Trovoada said the resumption of diplomatic ties with China had received extensive support in Sao Tome and Principe.
He affirmed that Sao Tome and Principe will firmly adhere to the one-China policy.
