Anti-government protesters have clashed with police in Afghanistan following Wednesday's suicide bombing on Kabul's diplomatic quarter. At least four people have been killed in the violence.

Wednesday's bombing, one of the worst in the capital since the US-led campaign to topple the Taliban started in 2001, left more than 90 people dead and 400 injured.

Hundreds have been killed in a series of terror attacks in the last few months, that President Ashraf Ghani's government has failed to suppress.

Public anger has been mounting. Over 1,000 demonstrators, many carrying photos of bombing victims, rallied near the site of Fridays' explosion, accusing the government of failing to address security issues.

The standoff between protesters and police erupted into violence. Gunfire was heard during the rally and by the afternoon, a local hospital official told Reuters that at least four people were killed in the protests.

Safety concerns have been growing since most foreign troops withdrew from the country in the last three years. Taliban insurgents now control 40% of Afghanistan. The Trump administration is considering increasing the number of American troops in the country from 3,000 to 5,000.
