Acting South Korean President and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn on Tuesday turned down senior presidential aides' resignation offers, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.
Hwang said rejection of the offers was based on consideration of the grave national security and economic situations the country faces and to ensure there are no gaps in the running of state affairs.

On Monday, Chief of Staff Han Kwang-ok, chief national security adviser Kim Kwan-jin, the presidential security chief and nine senior secretaries offered their resignations en masse to take responsibility for the ouster of President Park Geun-hye over a corruption scandal last Friday.
Park is the first president to be impeached in South Korea's history. She left the official presidential Blue House two days after impeachment and went back to her private residence in the district of Gangnam on Sunday night. Park's former spokesman said in a statement that the “truth will be definitely unearthed”. He further stated that Park apologized for "failing to fulfill my duty as president", which according to South Korean media, indicated that she didn't accept the court's assessment of corruption allegations against her.

There has been a split and clashes among South Koreans, with thousands celebrating her impeachment, and supporters protesting the impeachment verdict. Three people have died and several injured in street protests since the decision was made on Friday.
A presidential election is expected to be held on May 9 at the latest, according to the election commission chairman.
