Here's a recap of all the action in New York.
U.S. singer Bruno Mars won all the major awards at Sunday's Grammy Awards. BRUNO MARS SINGER "Those songs were written with nothing but joy and for one reason and for one reason only and that's love and that's all I wanted to bring with this album and hopefully I could feel that again and see everybody dancing and everybody moving."
American rapper and songwriter Kendrick Lamar was the night's second biggest winner, picking up five Grammys, mostly in rap categories, for his album "DAMN." and single "HUMBLE."
KENDRICK LAMAR RAPPER AND SONGWRITER "Most importantly it showed me the true definition of what being an artist was. From the jump I thought it was about the accolades and the cars and the clothes, but it's really about expressing yourself and putting that paint on the canvas for the world to evolve for the next listener, the next generation after that."
Canadian singer and songwriter Alessia Cara won Best New Artist and was the only female artist awarded during the three-and-a-half-hour broadcast.
ALESSIA CARA SINGER AND SONGWRITER "I just want to say that there are some incredible artists out there that are making incredible music that deserve to be acknowledged that don't always get acknowledged because of popularity contests or numbers games and that's kind of unfortunate so I just wanted to encourage everyone to support real music and real artists because everyone deserves the same shot."
American stand-up comedian and actor Dave Chappelle won Best Comedy Album and American singer-songwriter.
DAVE CHAPPELLE COMEDIAN AND ACTOR "Thank you everybody. I am honored to win an award, finally."
Other notable winners included American singer-songwriter and guitarist Chris Stapleton for Best Country Album.
CHRIS STAPLETON SINGER AND SONGWRITER "It's a wonderful room to be in, all these people here tonight. We always try to make great records as good as we can and I guess this is a testament to that, so thank you everybody that worked so hard for us."
The Grammys awarded artists in 84 categories in multiple genres including classical, jazz, opera, gospel, new age, Christian and Latin music. Sunday's event marks the Grammy Awards' first return to New York City in 15 years.
