A suicide bomber attacked a local official's funeral in eastern Afghanistan, killing at least 10 people and injuring many more.
The bomber detonated his explosives vest as people gathered to mourn a former district chief on Saturday. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack in Nangarhar Province. But the Taliban and the so-called Islamic State are both active in Nangarhar and routinely target security forces and local officials. The attack caps off a bloody 2017 in Afghanistan, which saw authorities struggle to cope with numerous militant groups.
