Greece Rally: Greeks protest to stop Macedonia simplifying its name
[]
Protesters are gathering in central Athens for a massive rally to protest against a potential Greek compromise in a dispute with neighboring Macedonia over its official name. The dispute began after Macedonia gained independence from the former Yugoslavia in 1991. Since then, it's been forced to use the name Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Greece argues that to simply call the country Macedonia would imply territorial claims on its own province that has the same name. Both countries have pledged to seek a solution this year.
