Representing the highest level of Bollywood film production, the film ‘3 Idiots’ swept the Chinese audience in 2009 with a profound feeling depicting youthful dreams and reality. The film demonstrated a confusion that many Chinese students experience upon graduation, and also brought the protagonist, Indian superstar Aamir Khan, into the spotlight in China.
Five years later, the Indian actor was at it once again, deeply challenging Indian social norms with yet another widely discussed film - 'PK' - hitting the fetters of the religious in the Indian world.
Last year, Khan broke the box office record of India with his anti-sexism film "Dangal".
He recently sat down with CGTN’s Yang Rui and explained the Indian culture that many Chinese are interested in.
Speaking of the singing and dancing in most Bollywood movies, Khan believes that this kind of artistic expression is rooted in the Indian day-to-day life and culture.
“In the main Indian cinemas, music plays a very important part. As it plays an important part in our lives. From the time you are born until the time you die. There is a song for every occasion in our full culture.”
Speaking of India's love for all sports and its desire to participate in international tournaments, Khan indicated that the lack of medals won by the nation has been due to the weak development of the country's sporting infrastructure.
“Indians would love to see Indian athletes doing well in the Olympics or other international arenas. It’s just at this point in time we don’t have the infrastructure that produces such champions. For me personally, I am not into medals. I would like to see children in India have more facilities for sports. That could create healthier and happier lives, also resulting in champions.”
The Indian star also pointed out the strong link between China and India.
