Workers from Beijing's urban management authorities began dismantling illegally-built extensions to residential buildings on Cuiwei Street, western Beijing's Haidian district on Wednesday. The move comes as part of efforts by the Beijing municipal government to beautify the city's urban environment and ensure law and order in public security. In 2017, 16,000 illegally-built houses covering an area of about 40 square kilometers are set to be demolished.
