Meanwhile, in Brussels, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on the European Union to recognize the state of Palestine.

Abbas made the remarks before an informal lunch with EU foreign ministers and diplomats. The Palestinian leader is seeking European support after the US decision on Jerusalem. Diplomats and officials in Brussels have said recognition for Palestine is not on the cards because that is for individual members to decide.
