HOU YUNDE 2017 STATE SUPREME SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY AWARD WINNER "There had been no way to deal with a massive flu outbreak in human history, but in 2009 we successfully limit the flu pandemic."
Hou Yunde's team developed the world's first vaccines for H1N1 pandemic flu. The World Health Organization recommended two doses, but tests indicated that one dose would be sufficient for adults. The vaccines and other prevention measures proposed by Hou's team helped China get through the 2009 flu pandemic, with a fatality rate five times lower than the international level.
