With the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation set to open in Beijing on Sunday, China's CRRC – the company behind the country's high-speed train network – is fast becoming a respected name in railway manufacturing around the world, particularly in the US.
Last Friday, the train maker received a contract worth 1.1 billion yuan (160 million US dollars) from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority in the US, and will export 45 high-speed double-decker trains to Philadelphia by the end of 2019.
With the deal completed, Chinese-made stainless steel trains area heading to the North American market for the first time, with the commuter trains set to run through Philadelphia, Delaware and New Jersey. There are reports that the US authority is considering ordering another batch of 10 more trains in the near future.

The train maker has contributed to US development through infrastructure investments. It won a bid to supply 284 subway trains to Boston for 567 million US dollars in 2014, and won a contract from the Chicago Transit Authority for 1.3 billion US dollars in 2016.
This April, CRRC signed a 647 million US dollar contract with Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to export 282 rail cars. The company is also eyeing contracts in other US cities like New York.
