With the Belt and Road Forum to be held in Beijing this month, UN Under-Secretary-General Wu Hongbo has promised that the United Nations will fully support China's work, noting the initiative is compatible with the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Wu, who will attend the upcoming forum, told CGTN's Li Jianhua that he believes the China-proposed initiative will provide new sources of economic growth for the world to counter sluggish economic activity.
The China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and its idea of building a community of human destiny is a milestone in China's diplomatic history, Wu added.
More than 20 heads of state and government will gather in Beijing on May 14 for the forum.
The Belt and Road Initiative was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and focuses on connectivity and cooperation between China and the rest of Eurasia, as well as parts of Africa.
