The Iraqi government has said its forces have retaken at least five ISIL-held villages to the west of Mosul. A top army commander said troops had destroyed two car bombs and killed several ISIL fighters. The forces are now leading a northward charge on districts west of the Tigris River in a drive to capture Mosul airport.
