China-Pakistan Economic Corridor: Introduction to CPEC, its vision & mission
[]
Launched in May 2013, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a collection of infrastructure projects under construction throughout Pakistan. The projects involved are worth over 60 billion US dollars. They center around massive infrastructure facilities, such as railways, roadways, special economic zones, energy production and agricultural development. The corridor stretches from Pakistan's southern Gwadar Port to China's Kashgar in its western Xinjiang Autonomous Region.
CPEC aims to promote regional connectivity. Pakistan officials predict the scheme will create over two million jobs by 2030, and add up to 2.5 percentage points to the country's annual economic growth.
