Spring Travel Rush: New train services to slash travel time between Chongqing & Guiyang
[]
A new high-speed railway from Chongqing to Guiyang in southern China started operations Thursday, ahead of this year's Spring Festival travel rush. Trains on the line will run 200 kilometers per hour. Some 132 train services will be arranged initially. The service will cut travel time between the two major cities in the region to two hours from the current nine. Trips from Chongqing to the city of Guangzhou will also be shortened to seven hours from 12. Train lines from Guangzhou to Chongqing and the rest of Sichuan Province are among the busiest in the country during this time of year. The new railway will offer thousands of migrant workers in Guangzhou a convenient alternative. The Spring Festival falls on February 16th this year. The 40-day travel rush will begin on February 1st and end on March 12th.
