Ren Qian, China's 16-year-old Rio Olympics gold medalist, finished second in the FINA/NVC Diving World Series 2017 Beijing leg, her first international event since the Games in Brazil last year.
Despite support from the crowd at the Beijing Water Cube, the Chengdu native found herself in a tight battle with compatriot Si Yajie, who is also no stranger to early success after winning her first world title in 2013 at the age of 14.

Ren's life on the diving board won't get any easier in the wake of last year's Olympic victory, as she’s now set a benchmark which other competitors hope to match.
Ren's goal is to continue her success while adjusting to her new-found status.

She’ll hope to return to the top of the podium as FINA's global tour continues, while also looking to solidify her potential ascent into the role of China's latest diving queen.
Ren is determined to compete in July at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
