At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet is attending the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing on May 14 and 15. Including Bachelet, leaders from 28 countries have confirmed their attendance at the forum, coming to exchange their views on multilateral cooperation among countries along the Belt and Road. Bachelet shared her expectations with CGTN.
"Firstly, we are so delighted to be invited to attend China's Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. I remember the first time I heard President Xi Jinping mention the Belt and Road Initiative at the 2014 BRICS Summit in Brazil. One of his suggestions was to develop infrastructure,” said Bachelet.
“We have been dedicated to making Chile a platform for China to contact with other Latin American countries. We have already made some achievements in this field - for instance, we now have branches of China Construction Bank in Chile, and during his 2015 visit to Santiago, Premier Li Keqiang reached an agreement with us, which would allow the Chinese yuan to flow to other Latin American countries through Chile,” said Bachelet, expressing her will to deepen cooperation with China.
