A video filmed by a Toronto teenager shows a Canadian woman yelling at Chinese workers at Foody Mart in Scarborough, “Go back to China.”
She also incorrectly claimed that “If you’re gonna work here, it is the law to know English.”
15-year-old Frank Hong uploaded the video to Facebook on Friday evening, saying he was shocked to witness “racist verbal abuse” in Toronto. The video has been viewed over 1 million times, sparking heated debate among web users.
Hong said that shared the video to “expose racism”, adding that “we all need to do something about this so that people won’t have to witness such situations ever again.”
According to Global News, Toronto police reported a rise in the number of hate crimes in 2016. The most frequently targeted groups were Jews, Muslims and members of the LGBT community.
