Senior leaders of the Communist Party of China have gathered in Beijing to review possible amendments to the Constitution.
General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping presided over the meeting. They listened to a report based on opinion from inside and outside the CPC on a draft amendment proposal issued by the CPC Central Committee. They agreed to revise a draft according to their discussions, and to submit it to next week's second plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee. In a statement, they said it was necessary to constitutionalize the major achievements of the Party and the people. The meeting stressed that Constitution amendments must follow the principles of the CPC leadership, legality and democracy to reflect the people's will.
