The 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic torch relay welcomed the New Year with a beach-front sunrise ceremony in Homigot, one of the easternmost points on the Korean peninsula.
The first torch-bearer of the morning passed the Olympic flame to the second in a ceremony to mark the first morning of South Korea's Olympic year. The torch will reach its final destination on February 9th, when it will light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremonies. The Olympic torch relay began its journey on 1st November last year and is travelling along a route measuring over 2-thousand kilometres across South Korea.
