In what is one of the world's more unusual alpine events, on April 1, skiers dressed in nothing more than skimpy swimwear joined in the fun at the Boogel Woogel" alpine carnival in Sochi, Russia, in a Guinness World Record attempt. Organizers said around 1,200 people dressed way down for the sub-zero event.
This event is typically seen as a way of welcoming in the warmer weather of spring. 1,008 participants showed up in 2016, setting a world record for the highest number of skiers clad in swimwear. Organizers are waiting for official confirmation to see if 2017's event sets another new record.
