China's film market is expected to see another surge in the next two weeks with a slew of imported films hitting cinemas nationwide. Sequels such as "Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2", "Dangal", "Power Rangers" and the latest outing of "Pirates of the Caribbean" are expected to be box-office hits. ‍

Science fiction and biopics by A-list directors are dominating the box office.
Among them is "Dangal" starring famous actor Aamir Khan. To date, the film has raked in nearly 400 million yuan or some 58 million US dollars, making it the highest-grossing Hindi film ever in the Chinese film market.
"King Arthur: Legend of the Sword", loosely based on the legend of Arthur and starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, with a cameo appearance by soccer star David Beckham, has also had a release in China.

However, what has been leading the box office in the first half of May are the domestic flicks. "This is not what I expected", "Love Off The Buff", "Battle of Memories" and "Shock Wave" topped the box office in the first two weeks.
A handful more domestic films are also slated for upcoming release, including "What A Wonderful Family", the first work of Chinese actor Huang Lei. The film is adapted from a 2016 Japanese comedy film of the same name, and is a comic and tender story about an ordinary family.
