Former Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou was indicted Tuesday by Taipei prosecutors for leaking confidential information in a wiretapping case in 2013.
The charges against Ma include violations of the Communication Security and Surveillance Act and the Control Act.
The case was filed against Ma by Democratic Progressive Party legislator Ker Chien-ming who was involved in improper political lobbying with then-Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng of Kuomintang. ‍

Ker alleged that Ma leaked details from the ongoing criminal investigation on him obtained by then-prosecutor-general Huang Shih-ming by wiretapping telephone conversations.
According to Ker, Ma instructed Huang to leak the conversations to then-head of Taiwan Executive Yuan Jiang Yi-huah. Ker said the leak damaged his reputation and implicated him in the case of influence-peddling in the judiciary.
Ma repeatedly stressed his innocence in an earlier hearing at the Taipei District Court, and said Ker filed the lawsuit to distract public attention from the improper lobbying case.
According to Ma, Ker attempted to persuade prosecutors not to appeal a court ruling that found him not guilty of an embezzlement accusation.
The court is expected to give its final ruling on this case on March 28, 2017.
