US President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office are approaching, accompanied by low approval ratings. But Chris Ruddy, the CEO of American conservative media company Newsmax and a close friend of Trump, says the president's performances during the first 100 days are “the most remarkable.”

According to a fresh CNN/ORC poll released in April, 44 percent say they approve of Trump's handling of the presidency, while 54 percent disapprove. That's about the same as in each of the two previous CNN/ORC polls taken after his inauguration.
But Ruddy thinks that his close friend is just using the power of presidency “like no other”, and has done some “tremendous” work to keep jobs in the US.
“First of all, he has had the most remarkable 100 days. He is the first non-politician to be president of the US. So that was very historic. He is getting business all over the America, corporate boards, to start talking about keeping jobs in America. I think the No.1 thing he has done is jobs,” Ruddy said.
Ruddy’s comment is not unique, and two measures of US progress have shown signs of improvement since Trump took office. Fifty-four percent now say things in the country are going well, up from 46 percent in February. That matches last year's high of 54 percent, reached in October. Likewise, almost six in 10 now say economic conditions in the US are good, an uptick compared with mid-January, and the highest mark on that question since May 2007.
Even though he has emerged as Trump’s most “prominent” and “unofficial” spokesman, Ruddy differs with Trump in some areas, particularly foreign affairs and security issues.

“But he is also resetting the trade deals with China, even with Europe. He is getting a lot of people to think about how to increase security at home. The number of illegals has jumped dramatically. And he is taking little action. He just raised his concerns,” Ruddy noted.
Ruddy has described the meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping as “historical”, and believes Xi’s visit will prove to be an icebreaker in Sino-US relations.
“I’m open-minded to see President Xi. It’s a very historical meeting. I think the president (Trump) and his team are really impressed by President Xi. And he really opened his eyes to the importance of China,” Ruddy told CGTN.
