The 62 year old's perseverance and courage have impressed many people on Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter, while his story reflects the challenges confronting those living with visual impairments. /VCG Photo

The World Health Organization estimates that 82 percent of people living with blindness are aged 50 or above, and about 90 percent of the world’s visually impaired live in low-income settings. /VCG Photo

To make tofu using traditional methods, Li spends hours grinding soy beans, cooking soy milk and pressing bean curds, all on his own. He uses his ears to judge if the soy milk is boiled, and switches his electric grinder on and off in complete darkness. /VCG Photo
