The importance of people-to-people bonds has been emphasized many times by Chinese President Xi Jinping in the Belt and Road Initiative. However, what are the best ways to make it happen?‍

"The relationships under the Belt and Road Initiative are not limited to the economy," Gao Jian, deputy director of the Center for British Studies at Shanghai International Studies University, told CGTN's "The Point with Liu Xin."

In his opinion, the bottom line in relationship was cultural communication, and acknowledging cultural diversity was crucial. "People should notice the dangers of misconception as well as misunderstanding of the cultural communication," he said.

David Bartosch, special foreign expert at the School of International Relations and Diplomacy in Beijing’s Foreign Studies University, said he appreciated China’s secular lifestyle and asserted the Chinese attitude toward life should be shared all over the world.

There is a saying in China that if life is not understood, how can death be fathomed. This philosophy is an important aspect that Chinese culture can share to the world, Bartosch said. 

Another example of cultural differences was given by Bayan Konirbayev, sales manager at Bright Oceans Corporation. A cultural symbol from his country - the Republic of Kazakhstan - was the whip.

In the nomadic culture of Kazakhstan, it is not only an instrument for horse-riding, but also a key instrument in discussions, he noted. "If someone shows a whip on the table, it means that he has something to say in a debate.‍"
