The Philippines' chief vulcanologist warned of a possible eruption at Mount Mayon "within weeks or even within days". The volcano is famous for its near-perfect cone shape. Mount Mayon has been spewing ash and burning mud and rocks over the past two days. More than three-thousand residents in nearby villages have been forced to leave their homes. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has raised its volcano alert to level three. Some flights to nearby Legazpi City have been cancelled for a second day Monday because of bad weather.
