Cross-Strait Ties: Bumpy relations harm Taiwan's tourism industry
[]
Despite the progress made in cross-strait ties over the past three decades, the number of exchanges between the Mainland and Taiwan has been dropping recently. Fewer visitors from the mainland has hurt the tourism industry in Taiwan, causing hotels to go bankrupt.
In Kenting, a famous tourist destination in southern Taiwan, the annual number of visitors has declined by 25-percent for two years in a row. The drop in tourism there is mostly due to fewer mainland visitors.
