The world should be fairer, more cooperative and multipolar, said the "Astana Declaration" issued at the end of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the Kazakh capital, Astana.

The declaration was made by heads of all eight SCO member countries at the end of the 17th summit.

Five key points were made in the declaration.

1. New members "significant"

Leaders stressed the "historic significance" of granting full SCO membership to India and Pakistan. The SCO bloc now represents 40 percent of the world's population and 20 percent of global GDP.

2. Peace and safety

Member states reiterated their common goal of building peace on the borders between them and talks and cooperation will be made on international matters in the region.

The states also expressed their opposition to weapons of mass destruction and terrorism. Anti-terrorist military drills will continue to be carried out among member countries on a regular basis.

3. Regional conflicts

All the member states agreed that regional conflicts should be solved through political and diplomatic methods based on commonly accepted international laws and principles. The conflicts include those in Afghanistan, Middle Eastern countries, Syria, Iran and Ukraine.

4. Economic cooperation

Wide international cooperation on economic matters should be advocated to push forward globalization, the heads of state said.

They pointed out that steps should be taken to prevent a revival in protectionism, including eliminating existing trade barriers and preventing the creation of new ones.

5. Culture and other fields

Cooperation between member states on health, culture, tourism, education and environment should also be promoted.
