Yemen's prime minister was preparing to flee the country after separatists seized the area around the presidential palace in the southern port city of Aden. According to security officials, the prime minister and several Cabinet members would leave imminently to Riyadh. Meanwhile, about 15 Yemeni soldiers were killed in a suicide car bombing in Ataq, the capital of southeastern Shabwa province.
The government blamed the attack on the Yemen-based al-Qaeda branch, which has expanded its presence during years of conflict between the Yemeni government and rebels.
