Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has extended his condolences to his Iranian counterpart over the deaths of 30 Iranian crew members, after their vessel sank Sunday afternoon in the East China Sea.
According to China's State Oceanic Administration, oil from the "Sanchi" now covers an area of around 58 square kilometers. The tanker burned for nearly a week after colliding with a freighter. Rescue teams managed to recover three victims' bodies.
Earlier, an Iranian official said there was "no hope" of survival for the other missing sailors. Chinese authorities say efforts are being made to mitigate the effects of the disaster.
