The United Nations is warning of a potential humanitarian crisis in northwestern Syria. While Syrian government forces clash with opposition fighters in Idlib, Turkish troops are engaged in a cross-border battle against Kurdish fighters. Officials estimate the conflicts have forced some 16-thousand people to flee the region. CGTN's Michal Bardavid reports from Istanbul.
MICHAL BARDAVID ISTANBUL "Turkey has been dealing with security issues, both within and outside its borders as the Afrin operation continues in Syria - where Turkey is trying to clear the area of the YPG - Syrian groups, Turkey sees as terrorists, there was a statement made by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, he announced that since the Olive Branch operation began 800 terrorists had been killed in Syria. Meanwhile, a rocket fired from within Syria hit the Turkish border town of Kilis - at least five people were injured in that attack. Moving on to operations within Turkey - following a 2016 failed coup against state institutions including President Erdogan and his government. State-run Anadolu news agency reports, the government had launched a massive crackdown where over 50,000 people had been arrested, and over 150,000 either sacked or suspended. On Thursday, a Turkish prosecutor issued detention warrants for over 120 more people from the military. Meanwhile, the state of emergency in Turkey has been continuing since the failed coup 2016.
