Before we go, let's take a look at how some of China's major cities welcomed in the new year. In the capital, the venue for the city's countdown ceremony this year was south Beijing's Yongdingmen and thousands came out to witness the gate being lit up especially for the occasion. Meanwhile, in Shanghai, huge crowds attended a dazzling New Year's Eve show in a downtown business center. In Hong Kong, the city's awe-inspiring fireworks display failed to disappoint once again, as it brightened up the night sky for almost ten minutes. And, at the Taipei 101, the tallest building in the Taiwanese city, more than 10-thousand fireworks were set off with LED lighting for a record-breaking six minutes.
