A laboratory in the eastern Chinese coastal city of Qingdao has reached an agreement with an Australian organization to jointly build a research center on Southern Hemisphere oceans.
“The center will promote the sharing of marine knowledge and experience, scientific vessels and facilities, and marine research and educational resources between the two countries as well as forge a partnership in marine observation,” said Wu Lixin, director of Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (QNLM).

Larry Marshall, chief executive of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, said its new partnership with QNLM would help combat global warming.
Established in October 2015, QNLM aims to be a world-class research center for marine science and technology as well as a platform for collaborative innovation while bringing in resources and professionals to help strengthen China’s abilities in the field.
