China and Finland on Wednesday signed a series of cooperative agreements on trade, protecting pandas, research and legislation during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Finland visit.
Prior to Xi's state visit, China-Finland relations had already enjoyed good health for a long time. Finland was one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic ties with China, as well as the first to sign an intergovernmental trade agreement with Beijing.
China has been Finland's largest trading partner in Asia for the past 14 years, while Finland is China's third-largest trading partner in the Nordic region.
The two countries agreed to upgrade bilateral relations to a "future-oriented new-type cooperative partnership" in 2013, and have cooperated in areas such as high-tech industries, clean energy, innovation, and Arctic research.
