We start off in South Korea where on Friday, China's speed skating team held their first training session in the country that will host the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. China will compete in 19 individual events and one group competition.
Gao Tingyu, the men's 500-meter speed skating champion from the 2017 Asiad, and two-time short-track world champion Yu Jing were also at the stadium for some training. Along with China on the ice were athletes from Germany, Norway, Canada, and others. Friday's training did not last long. Gao participated in an individual event at the World Championships that were also held at the Gangneung Oval so is already familiar with the venue.
The women's team pursuit is the only group event that China's Speed Skating team has qualified for. The team pursuit only made its debut at the Games in 2006 in Turin, and China managed to snag the eighth and final qualification spot. Their place at the event in Pyeongchang came as the result of good performances on the World Cup circuit, and they will be aiming to get on the podium in South Korea.
