The Philippines' military said on Tuesday that Islamist militants hold 20 percent of Marawi, disputing an earlier claim by ISIL news agency Amaq that its "fighters are spread in more than two-thirds" of the southern town.

Also on Tuesday, officials said five civilians were killed by militants, bringing the civilian death toll to 26. Flags nationwide have been flying at half-mast, commemorating those killed in the conflict.

It has been three weeks since the Islamist militants took over Marawi. During this period of time, Philippine government forces have set several deadlines, all of which have passed without the fights coming to an end. Moreover, the government has been inconsistent with reports of how much of Marawi they are in control of.
