Staying in England, Ross Barkley has a new home -- as he is making the switch from Everton to Chelsea. The England midfielder will also inherit the number eight shirt once worn by Blues record scorer Frank Lampard. Barkley's contract was set to expire at the end of the season, and reportedly has signed a new deal for five-and-a-half years with the Premier League champs. Chelsea paying 15-million pounds to acquire his service.
Barkley has been attached to Everton since he was 11 and went to the 2014 World Cup and 2016 European Championship as a member of the England squad. But he hasn't developed as many hoped, with former Everton coach Ronald Koeman scathing at times last season about the midfielder's failure to make the next step in his career. Barkley, who nearly joined Chelsea on the final day of the summer transfer window in August, plays as a central midfielder and faces lots of competition for a place with N'Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Cesc Fabregas and Danny Drinkwater also playing in the middle of the park. Because he hasn't played for Everton this season, Barkley is eligible to play in all four competitions that Chelsea is involved in. Barkley has made 150 Premier League appearances for Everton, scoring 21 goals.
