The Astana Light Metro in the Kazakh capital will be the country's first urban light railway when it opens in 2018.

The line is the product of cooperation with China, with both China Railway No. 2 Group and China Railway Eurasia group moving the project from a dream to reality.

The line stretches for 22 kilometers, and will help cut transportation times and commutes throughout the city.

It will also use fully-automatic self-driving trains - the most advanced technology in the world so far.

The Astana Light Rail Transit System Project is due to be completed in 2018.

China and Kazakhstan have enjoyed close cooperation in the 25 years since they established diplomatic relations.

President Xi Jinping, currently on a four-day state visit to the country, said more economic cooperation agreements are expected to be signed.
