Cambodia's biggest hydropower dam – The 400-megawatt Lower Sesan 2 Hydropower Plant -- began operating last November. All of its 8 Turbine Hydro- generator units were designed and developed by China' s leading turbine manufacturer. Our reporter Liu Yang spoke with one of the company's engineers in Cambodia, and visited the company's factory in Sichuan.
CHEN YONGZHANG, ENGINEER ENGINEER, DONGFANG ELECTRIC MACHINERY CO., LTD "The first two turbine hydro-generator units are already in operation. By the end of 2018, all 8 units will be fully operational, and they will cover a quarter of Cambodia's annual electricity demand."
Cambodia's biggest hydropower dam built with Chinese know-how! Engineer Chen Yongzhang is overseeing the installation of 8 Turbine Hydro- generator units. The plant started operating last November, four years after construction began. Xin Jianzhong just returned from Cambodia to China after nine months working on the project. He and his team put the plant's first two turbine hydro-generator units into operation. Today, the two units produce 100 thousand kilowatts of electricity for Cambodian families and factories.
XIN JIANZHONG ENGINEER, DONGFANG ELECTRIC MACHINERY CO., LTD "Cambodia has a weaker industrial level. Many of our machinery parts had to be processed here in China, and then shipped to the dam for installation."
Xin says there are still many challenges ahead. It is the first time such advanced machinery has been installed in Cambodia. Dong Fang Electric is working together with Cambodian engineers and staff to increase their understanding of Chinese manufacturing and technology.

The project is seen as a huge step towards supplying stable, quality electricity in Cambodia. Dong Fang Electric General Manager, He Jianhua, says the company has provided high quality equipment and services to more than 40 countries. It has been ranked the world’s number one producer of power equipment since 2004.
