An uninvited kangaroo stunned Australian racegoers by gatecrashing a race and weaving through the horses on Tuesday.
Revelers were gobsmacked when the last-minute competitor hopped into the fray during the race at Cessnock in the Hunter region of New South Wales.
The kangaroo was first spotted at about the 1,500 meter mark of the Hunter Jaguar Land Rover Benchmark 55 Handicap – a 2,125-meter-long event.
At one point it even looked like a strong challenger for the title as it bounded alongside the inside rail, forcing the jockeys at the front of the pack to ease back and give it space.
But the kangaroo then swerved to the left and darted in front of the leading horses before sidestepping its rivals and making a leap for it.
Amazingly, no jockeys or animals were injured in the incident as the horses seemed to take little notice of their furry rival and the race was won by Cunning As A Tiger.
